I used to use this blog as a family activity blog, but it hasn't been used as such in over six years. So now it's my own personal diary/blog, for my random thoughts.... and for journaling travels with my sweet hubby, so I can review the good times later.

Dearest Ones that I love. I send all my condolences to all of you. It is a very sad day and yet a peaceful day that has released Tom's spirit into the next world. My heart is full of emotion and love, and I feel your pain and heartache. May the love and peace of God rest on your lives and bring you joy as we all celebrate the life of a giant. He will be with us always!

Susan, I have been following your family journey with your Dad. I just read the latest and I offer my condolences. I sense a sign of relief that the battle is over and peace replaces the many struggles that everyone has encountered. What an awesome family you have. The support and love you share has been an incredible testimony of what was evidently taught and cherished by those who are now in your care. Thank you for sharing your journey. Cindy

Thomas Marion Tate was a pillar of his family, the idol of my daughter, a wonderful father and grandfather who would do anything to help his children. The world is a sadder place with his loss. It's at times like this that we question why the good have to die. We shed tears over his loss, but will always remember his loving kindness to his family and loved ones. We will plant trees in Israel in his honor and memory.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please extend my sympathies to your entire family --and tell your mom I love her so much! It is going to be a real tough transition for her --they have been so close for so long. Please keep me posted on how she is doing. Luella
I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Mary Wroten, Mel's mom, and her sister Cheryl Wroten, are understandably still in somewhat of a shock today. I am ...
In a message dated today, September 22, 2005, David writes: Hello all, Well, we officially took over the flight today, and I have standby duties. So we are rolling right into things and it’s great. For those that haven’t heard, the shop here is great. We don’t have to stay in Tent City with everyone else, we have our own bunker we acquired from the Iraqis. It’s very nice and very cool underground. Most leadership have their own rooms, and the airmen have a roommate. I have one roommate - a guy from my home shop. We are in a semi-central location on base, so traveling is usually on foot. I keep finding things out about this base everyday that I LOVE. Just a few: laundry is FREE with a ONE day turnaround, we have an awesome relationship with everyone around base (we work with everyone from the Brits, the Italians, to the Army and the Marines), and I love standing on top of our bunker and looking down on the lowly mortals living in Tent City! If you didn’t know, we have plenty of computer...
Dad did finally receive a tracheostomy yesterday, so that tube is gone out of his mouth and now sprouts from his chest. They tried to put the feeding tube down his nose but it keeps clogging up so today [or tomorrow] they will insert a port into his stomach... Later today or tomorrow we will start a search of local specialty hospitals that might have the criteria to care for Dad after his discharge from the ICU. I am headed for the hospital now, so please forgive the brevity of this post. Hugs to all, and thank you again for all your prayers. Susan P.S. I am printing out all the wonderful comments to the blog and also the emails I've received from so many, and taking them to Mom to read. It's so encouraging to her to see all the support and love Dad has. God bless you all.
