You are the Author of 2009

A dear friend wrote the following essay, you can read more of his musings at http://www.mainstreetoutloud.com/. For that matter, listen to his radio show every Monday at 4pm on KFNX 1100AM radio. Enjoy, and I look forward to reading this Chapter of your Life, as Rudi put it.

You have been selected, by the publisher, to write a great novel. God is the publisher, your family and friends are the proofreaders, and you are the author.

We know the title of the book is "The Life of (insert your name here)." A new year is like a chapter in this great novel. We know this chapter is entitled "2009." Each day is a page that you write. We know... let me correct that... we think this particular chapter will contain 365 pages. Of course, the publisher does hold the exclusivity of a deadline, and this may alter the length.

What we don't know is how pivotal this chapter is to the entire novel, nor do we know how this chapter will end. Will this chapter be filled with such positive attitude, caring behavior and respected character that it will set the tone for more amazing chapters, and thereby turn this book into a best seller?

Or will the tone be such that this chapter will cause the proofreaders to abandon the project due to the amount of work required? Will the publisher ask for a re-write due to so many pages of deception, irresponsibility and hypocrisy?

Many books are written. Some become best sellers and are reprinted, again and again.

Some books don't sell, are shredded, and recycled -- as though they never were.

Some people have such positive effects on this world that their good is manifest through others, over and over.

Some people are so petty and selfish that they only take, contributing nothing and when gone, they aren't missed -- as though they never were.

As surely as time moves forward, the pages will be filled. You are the author, you control the message, and you determine the outcome -- best seller or recycled.
