Please pray for Edith, having OpenHeart Bypass Surgery today

At the same time that DadTate is in the hospital in Arizona, there is another drama unfolding in Missouri. Please keep Aunt Edith Tate-Hern in your prayers; she is undergoing open heart bypass surgery as I write this post.

Rick took her to Providence Hospital initially for pneumonia and three blood clots in her legs which had not responded to treatment. The doctors were planning on removing the clots surgically. But then, in the hospital she suffered a heart attack. And then she went in to renal failure, necessitating a delay in obtaining a heart catheterization until they got that stabilized. The angiogram revealed that she needed a three-way bypass surgery. Two arteries were 99% blocked and one was 100% blocked, completely closed off. She did not want the surgery but then today she suffered another heart attack and consented to do the bypass surgery. They immediately prepped her and took her in to the O.R. on an emergency basis. When I last spoke to Rick they had just taken her off the bypass machine, and were controlling the bleeding prior to closing her up and transferring her to the ICU.

We are all continuing to pray for both Edith and Tom, that they will each have an uneventful night and will be able to recover from their ordeals. Please also include Rick in your prayers; this has to be immeasurably stressful on him. All the cousins wish we could be there with you Rick, but we are with you in spirit... and we thank goodness for the blessing of CELL PHONES. (We've been in almost constant contact the past few days) - Talk to you tomorrow, Cuz.

I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Bye, David!

David left for Korea this morning and I miss him already. He won't be gone that long, the job contract is just through May with a possible extension til December. And besides, he doesn't even live in the same state as me any more, so what's the big deal? I think it's a Mom-Radar thing. He's flying out of my Mom Radar, and I won't be able to track him any longer, at least not as easily, ha! *sigh* Seems we can't wait for our kids to grow up and then when they do, it's WHAMMO we miss them so much.
