Mary Wroten - A Woman of Strength!

Most of the readers of this blog already know that Mary (Sanphillip) Wroten was admitted to JC Lincoln Hospital ICU on Wednesday, April 30th. What they thought was a cold and an asthma attack turned out to be emphysema and pneumonia, among other things. She has been on a ventilator (breathing machine) for the past four days. She's also been receiving four different kinds of antibiotics, rehydration (she was very dehydrated), lots of sedation, etc. etc. Cheryl, Toni, and I have been standing watch in the ICU room and the care Mary has been receiving can be referred to as nothing short of excellent. Long story short... today the ventilator was successfully removed and that is a MAJOR step toward recovery. We are all shouting Hallelujah and doing the Happy Dance. Of course, she still has a long way to go, but getting the breathing tube removed from her throat is a huge relief... and now she will be able to talk, as soon as her throat heals a bit. She is receiving nutrition via a nasal feeding tube now, and that should help her stamina - but she has already shown herself to be a woman of IRON, to have fought and come through so much. Many, many thanks to everyone for their prayers, and all the phone calls of support to Cheryl - she has certainly needed them, and appreciated them. I am confident that tonight Cheryl will finally get a good night's sleep (versus the average of 2 hours per night she has been getting), now that her mom is improving. Saddest News - Melonie Schollmeyer

I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Edith Admitted to Hospital Again

Rick reports that his mom had been overdosed on Coumidin - an extremely dangerous anticoagulant drug - and also had an infection going on. Long story short, she is no longer at the physical rehab facility. She has been admitted again back into the hospital where both situations are hopefully being remedied, and she has the love and support of us all. Auntie Edith, hang in there, we all love you!!

Fast Update on Tom Tate

Dad did finally receive a tracheostomy yesterday, so that tube is gone out of his mouth and now sprouts from his chest. They tried to put the feeding tube down his nose but it keeps clogging up so today [or tomorrow] they will insert a port into his stomach... Later today or tomorrow we will start a search of local specialty hospitals that might have the criteria to care for Dad after his discharge from the ICU. I am headed for the hospital now, so please forgive the brevity of this post. Hugs to all, and thank you again for all your prayers. Susan P.S.
