More Pics from Israel

Hi, Susan here again... per Big Sister's Decree. I will add to her post by adding a couple of pics of people we've been visiting and places we've been. Here's Jan Weston being hugged by an estatic Ethel, with Chet in the background. I'll have more pics of the B'nai Shalom group soon and will post them then.
And this is me playing The Fifty Foot Woman at Mini-Israel...

Here we are in BeerSheva, at the Ethiopian Folk Craft Center. The woman on the left is an Israeli who has been helping Ethiopian Jews who have emigrated to Israel commemorate their past. She says it is difficult because so many of them just want to forget the awful life they had in Ethiopia, but "it is necessary to remember where we came from." So she helps them remember by having them create pottery and clay statues as they did in Ethiopia, so their children will know what life was like before they came to Israel. She is creating a museum of valuable folklore, not to mention the priceless anthropological value.

Saddest News - Melonie Schollmeyer

I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Edith Admitted to Hospital Again

Rick reports that his mom had been overdosed on Coumidin - an extremely dangerous anticoagulant drug - and also had an infection going on. Long story short, she is no longer at the physical rehab facility. She has been admitted again back into the hospital where both situations are hopefully being remedied, and she has the love and support of us all. Auntie Edith, hang in there, we all love you!!

Fast Update on Tom Tate

Dad did finally receive a tracheostomy yesterday, so that tube is gone out of his mouth and now sprouts from his chest. They tried to put the feeding tube down his nose but it keeps clogging up so today [or tomorrow] they will insert a port into his stomach... Later today or tomorrow we will start a search of local specialty hospitals that might have the criteria to care for Dad after his discharge from the ICU. I am headed for the hospital now, so please forgive the brevity of this post. Hugs to all, and thank you again for all your prayers. Susan P.S. I am printing out all the wonderful comments to the blog and also the emails I've received from so many, and taking them to Mom to read.
