August Events

I am a *bit* tardy on posting this month's events... but if you'll read the post that appears just under this one, you'll understand why. Might not forgive me for it, but at least you'll understand why, hehe.... Here is the lineup for August!!
  • Aug 1: Jonathan Tate started out the month by turning 21 on August 1st, yaaay! (Furthermore, rumor has it that he will be soon attending ASU...)
  • Aug 2: August 2nd heralded Acacia Walker's 16th birthday... More congrats on another milestone!
  • Aug 3: Our good friend Brent Weston is now a mature 38 as of August 3rd... Wow, Brent, didja ever think you'd make it?!
  • Aug 8: Roxanne and Ricardo celebrated their 6th anniversary on August 8th. Life is a lot more hectic for them with the arrival of little Julian.
  • Aug 18: JP and Melinda are still categorized as newlyweds, with their 4th anniversary on August 18th.
  • Aug 22: Another good friend, Ernie Geschke, celebrates his birthday on August 22nd, and I'm thrilled to pass along the report that he is still victorious over his battle with prostate cancer.
  • Aug 23: Rick Tate celebrates his 45th birthday on August 23rd -- Sounds to me like a good occasion to get away from the midwest and come on out to Arizona to celebrate, Rick!
  • Aug 25: Mark Thomas his birthday on August 25th, and his looking forward to his upcoming discharge from the U.S. Army in December.
  • Aug 25: Also on August 25th, Sherry will arrive in Arizona for a four-day visit! Looking forward to it, sis!
  • Aug 30: Zac Colletti holds the month end title by celebrating his birthday on August 30th. He's been spending a lot of time down in Florida with his mom (Dianne Rizzo) at the condo they bought together, but he still has time to peform lots of gigs with his band in Colorado.

Saddest News - Melonie Schollmeyer

I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Mary Wroten, Mel's mom, and her sister Cheryl Wroten, are understandably still in somewhat of a shock today. I am ...

Family Pics from Israel

Here's a pic of Debora, Vernon, and Sherry at the Kotel (Western Wall) in Jerusalem, taken on the day of Yoav's Bar Mitzvah (which was rather obviously done at the Kotel). Debora has grown so much! Nonetheless she is standing on a chair to be this close in stature to her dad! And then we have Sherry, Debora, and Susan: pic taken at the same location... Pictured below are Efrat and Yoav. Efrat is Ariel's wife, and Yoav is Efrat's nephew (son of Rosie and Effie). After the Bar Mitzvah ceremony at the Kotel we went to Mini Israel, where this photo was taken. January birthdays & events in the Clan

I am going to attempt to post family birthdays and any planned events at the beginning of each month. If you know of someone I've missed, let me know! Jan 2... Mark Tate's 17th birthday. Happy Birthday, Mark! (These kids are just growing up too fast.) Jan 5... Speaking of growing up too fast, Adi Whetstone turned 2 on January 5th. Jan 6... Gary Ryan Whetstone is a ripe old 24. Aaaw. Jan 7... Melonie Schollmeyer turns... well, let's just say she's 29 again. Jan 11... Melonie's twins Robert and Brittany turn 11. More kids growing so fast. Jan 23... Janice Tate turns 29 again, as does Kyle Lowe! (Remarkable how no one in our family gets any older than 29) Jan 24... Sherry Whetstone joins the 29-again crowd Jan 28... Susan joins... you got it! the 29-again crowd too! Jan 28... is also Rickey Lynn Gans' Bat Mitzvah. Mazal Tov!
