PFC Scott Tate is home for 10 days

Scott's graduation from Marine Corps basic training was fabulous, and he looks SO GOOD. Semper Fidelis!! He has lost an incredible amount of weight, has an absolutely concave stomach, and has buffed up muscles... In a word, WOW. He got 10 days leave time after his graduation on March 4th so will be home with his parents a few days more before having to report for further training. (We didn't stay in California as long as we'd planned because it rained almost constantly... except for the ceremony, when the skys parted and the sun shone beautifully! So we didn't get to visit with family there, but will go back in a few months to visit all the Californians.)

On his first morning back in Phoenix, Scott... I mean PFC Tate... went to visit Grandma Emily, and I happened to be on the telephone talking to her when he arrived. You should have heard her squeal with delight!! Of course, she admits she adores a Man in Uniform!

Saddest News - Melonie Schollmeyer

I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Edith Admitted to Hospital Again

Rick reports that his mom had been overdosed on Coumidin - an extremely dangerous anticoagulant drug - and also had an infection going on. Long story short, she is no longer at the physical rehab facility. She has been admitted again back into the hospital where both situations are hopefully being remedied, and she has the love and support of us all. Auntie Edith, hang in there, we all love you!!

Fast Update on Tom Tate

Dad did finally receive a tracheostomy yesterday, so that tube is gone out of his mouth and now sprouts from his chest. They tried to put the feeding tube down his nose but it keeps clogging up so today [or tomorrow] they will insert a port into his stomach... Later today or tomorrow we will start a search of local specialty hospitals that might have the criteria to care for Dad after his discharge from the ICU. I am headed for the hospital now, so please forgive the brevity of this post. Hugs to all, and thank you again for all your prayers. Susan P.S.
