Relatives are the Best People

I'm pretty sure everyone in the clan is aware by now of my involvement with Packages From Home... the organization that sends care packages to our troops overseas. But did you know that our cousin Mary Wroten has become an integral part of letting our troops know we support them? Yep. She lit the fire under the seniors group at her church (St. Luke's) and they have been collecting donations like crazy - everything from shaving cream to oreo cookies. She brings all the goodies over to my place and then we package it up for mailing and Kathy Lewis (founder of PFH, lives about a mile from me) trots it off to the Post Office and mails it to an American Forces trooper in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. If anyone wants more info on Packages From Home, or if you want to make a donation of supplies or money for mailing the packages, just point your browser to: http://www.PackagesFromHome.org

Saddest News - Melonie Schollmeyer

I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Edith Admitted to Hospital Again

Rick reports that his mom had been overdosed on Coumidin - an extremely dangerous anticoagulant drug - and also had an infection going on. Long story short, she is no longer at the physical rehab facility. She has been admitted again back into the hospital where both situations are hopefully being remedied, and she has the love and support of us all. Auntie Edith, hang in there, we all love you!!

Fast Update on Tom Tate

Dad did finally receive a tracheostomy yesterday, so that tube is gone out of his mouth and now sprouts from his chest. They tried to put the feeding tube down his nose but it keeps clogging up so today [or tomorrow] they will insert a port into his stomach... Later today or tomorrow we will start a search of local specialty hospitals that might have the criteria to care for Dad after his discharge from the ICU. I am headed for the hospital now, so please forgive the brevity of this post. Hugs to all, and thank you again for all your prayers. Susan P.S. I am printing out all the wonderful comments to the blog and also the emails I've received from so many, and taking them to Mom to read.
