Lake Tahoe

Jimmy and I have been at Lake Tahoe now for 5 days, and I cannot accept that we will have to return home in just 3 more days. It is so beautiful here, and this is considered the OFF season! I've wanted to visit for years since Daddy and Mama visited here and raved about it so. Daddy kept telling me that Lake Tahoe CA and Angel Fire NM were two places that I 'must' visit. Daddy, it is 100% as gorgeous as you said, and I am sorry it took so many years for me to come and witness the beauty. I just wish you were still alive so I could share my thoughts with you in person. Mom would have come with us, but she is not up to the 14 hour drive to get here, so she has been re-visiting Lake Tahoe vicariously through my daily phone calls to her.
Just since arriving, we have watched an eagle swoop down from the sky to scoop up a vole for lunch; a black bear crossed the road right in front of us, looked at us and then ambled along his way; and then when we went out on a dinner cruise the Captain let me pilot the boat! It has been a wonderful, exciting time, and so full of beauty. I highly recommend anyone who enjoys nature to visit Lake Tahoe CA at least once in their lifetime.

Saddest News - Melonie Schollmeyer

I don't even know how to write this. We are all so very sad. Melonie Schollmeyer, a vibrant woman, our relative and friend, became suddenly ill over the weekend and passed away. Details at this point are sketchy. **(The following is updated info as of noon Monday)** Melonie's children, Brittany and Robert, just had their Confirmation on Saturday evening. Melonie was not feeling well enough to attend, and stayed at home with flu-like symptoms. Afterward the children, Mary, and Cheryl all visited with Mel before going taking the children to spend the night with Tom. The next day Cheryl and Mary could not raise Melonie by telephone and so asked Tom to go see how she was doing. He did so (thankfully the children stayed in the car) and found Melonie had passed away in the bedroom. The Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Edith Admitted to Hospital Again

Rick reports that his mom had been overdosed on Coumidin - an extremely dangerous anticoagulant drug - and also had an infection going on. Long story short, she is no longer at the physical rehab facility. She has been admitted again back into the hospital where both situations are hopefully being remedied, and she has the love and support of us all. Auntie Edith, hang in there, we all love you!!

Fast Update on Tom Tate

Dad did finally receive a tracheostomy yesterday, so that tube is gone out of his mouth and now sprouts from his chest. They tried to put the feeding tube down his nose but it keeps clogging up so today [or tomorrow] they will insert a port into his stomach... Later today or tomorrow we will start a search of local specialty hospitals that might have the criteria to care for Dad after his discharge from the ICU. I am headed for the hospital now, so please forgive the brevity of this post. Hugs to all, and thank you again for all your prayers. Susan P.S. I am printing out all the wonderful comments to the blog and also the emails I've received from so many, and taking them to Mom to read.
