Pre-trip jitters

It's bucket list time. I'm half Italian but have never been to "The Old Country" as my mother called it. My son and daughter-in-law decided on the trip, to give Dave something to look forward to, as he's been stuck in Kuwait on a job for over seven months. They invited us to join, and the two couples will split costs. Voila! I finally get to visit Italy.  For weeks now, I've been going over what outfits to take, packing and unpacking and packing again in my excitement. You'd think I was a teenager.

BLINK

A short essay/story/memoir/??? BLINK Blink. I'm a carefree 10-year-old, riding a pony through our alfalfa fields, unknowing of any evil in the world and oblivious to the good fortune I have to be raised on this farm by loving parents. I'm just enjoying the sunshine, and then in the middle of the night, it's exciting to get up and help my mother and older sister open the irrigation gates to water the crops. On Sunday, I sneak off to attend church with my friend, where I'm the only white person in attendance. The passion in the gospel singing speaks to me. Blink. Carefree childhood vanishes and is replaced by the seriousness of a religious cult. I'm trying to do the right thing to please God but I'm constantly told I'm unworthy. Is this really true? I begin to lose the ability to laugh. The world is in the midst of the Vietnam War, and a couple of the men in our church who were drafted come back... different, shell-shocked. What happened to them? Is...

Lee's Ferry Fishing Trip

Image
Just found this as an old draft, from September 2007 when Jimmy, Dave, and I went fishing at Lee's Ferry in northern Arizona.  I'll try to post it now, and we'll see what date Blogger puts it under.

Redecorating is for the birds

So, I finally finished framing the bathroom mirror and painting the walls. Guess I'll never do that again by myself, since it took me nearly 3 months to do. Next time is for the professionals! Before: After framing mirror, painting walls and cabinets white, and before deciding to add an accent wall: :

New Theme for this Blog

This blog used to be for posting family news, but no one has used it for over six years, so I am re-dedicating it to my own random thoughts.... maybe I'll use it as a diary on our travels. In any case, it should be more interesting than just six-year-old posts. Maybe when I get old (wink wink) I can use it to remember what the heck I did on such and such a day.

The Traveling AlphaMommy

It's been a few months since I posted last. Mom (Emily) came back to Arizona for Dave and Kari's wedding, and has been staying with us the past few months... that is, until last week. I flew with her to Virginia for her to stay the next few months at Robin & Jerry's, and I have just returned to Arizona. Miss you already, Mommy! The short week I spent there was full of family and fun - check my Facebook page for photos and more info. ( www.Facebook.com/thewebwalker ) In other news, our grandson Draegen has taken his first steps and is now can truly be called a Walker (pun intended). More news: Carrie (Tate) Powell is expecting again.. Congratulations! For more details, visit her Facebook page.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. David Whetstone

Image
Well, it's official. They are married. Dave and Kari moved their wedding date from March of next year to 11/11/11... they got married in Peoria AZ at a lovely venue called Old Town Wedding Center - a historical home converted to a wedding center. They were married in the backyard; the weather was beautiful; and everyone had a wonderful time. So many relatives came to town to celebrate the event it was awesome. Sherry and Vernon will be staying till nearly the end of November, then they will go to Virginia to visit (more) with Robin and Jerry, and of course to see Rick, before returning home to Israel. Here is a link to some photos on my Facebook page if you'd like to take a peek. If you are a Facebook user, just go to my page: www.Facebook.com/thewebwalker .
